Presentation of the 2009 National Points Championship Top 10 – Mini Max
The second class for our Top 10 presentations is Mini Max. In the category of karting classes for 9-12 year olds the Mini Max class is the fastest class with a 125cc restricted 2 cycle motor producing 13.6 horsepower. The design of the class is to teach drivers and pit crews the importance of driver ability and chassis tuning. As with the Micro Max class, a spec gear eliminates one element of tuning and allows for concentration on the areas where the biggest on track gains can be made. Each year the competition level in this class increases as the skill levels of both drivers and tuners grow.
With the introduction of the Micro Max class in 2008 an expected drop in the number of Mini Max drivers nationwide was expected, this turned out not to happen. The Mini Max class in 2009 actually grew by 8%. This growth is the result of drivers from other categories in karting recognizing the level playing field the Rotax series offers, spending money on track time and testing rather than in the motor shop.
Leading the 2010 National Points Championship was Dalton Sargeant of Boca Raton, Florida. Joining his brother Logan in the Micro Max Class, the RRD team sweeps the 2 youngest categories for the 2009 USRMC National Points Championship. Following Dalton was Jordan Perry, only 6 points behind, giving the South Florida RMax Challenge from Homestead Florida a 1-2 sweep. Completing the Top 10 5 Drivers from the Southwest Regions Cup, plus 2 drivers from the California Gatorz Karting Cup and the lone lady in the Top 10, Hanna Zellers from the MRP series.
Looking throughout the ranks of the US Mini Max class are a number of drivers who will move up to the Junior class this year but don’t think the competition will lessen as there are also a number of Micro Max drivers moving into Mini Max to challenge for the 2010 titles in both the USRMC National Points and USRMC Grand Nationals. The one definite we know looking into the new season is the competition will be just as intense.
Congratulations to all of the 2010 USRMC Top 10 Mini Max drivers.

I started racing in 2006 when I was about 10 years old. In 2008 I ran my first mini max season and finished 2nd in the season championship. I finished in the top 3 in 5 of the 8 races on the Gatorz tour. In 2009 my goal was to win races and go to the nationals. I won 3 races this year in Gatorz tour and won the season championship. The nationals we had a really good kart and were top 5 all weekend. The final didn’t go to well though as I was hit from behind on the first corner, but I learn a lot from competing at the nationals. It was a really great season for me. I am glad I did so well and got to participate in the Rotax series. I would like to thank Premier Motorsports and my family. |
